Find the rust before you own it.
A used car that spent ten winters on salted Maritime roads can look clean on top and be eaten through underneath. We meet the car at the seller's driveway or the dealer's lot, scan it for codes, look under the hood and underneath, and drive it if the seller allows. Then we tell you plainly what we found, so you can buy it, haggle or walk away.
You might need this if…
- You found a car on Marketplace and it looks almost too clean
- The seller says it just needs a sensor
- It's a private sale with no service records
- You're buying for your kid or a parent and want another set of eyes on it
- You're about to sign at a dealer and want an independent opinion first

How it goes
Send us the listing
Paste the ad, or send the year, make, model, kilometres and where the car is. We confirm the price and line up a time that works for you and the seller.
We inspect it at the seller's
Code scan, under-hood check, a look underneath for rust and leaks, brakes, tires and suspension, then a test drive if the seller allows it.
You get the straight story
We go through what we found, what's normal for the car's age, and what will need money soon. Then you decide whether to buy, negotiate or walk.
Questions about pre-purchase inspections
Is this the same as a New Brunswick motor vehicle inspection?
No. We're not a provincial inspection station, and this doesn't get you an inspection sticker. It's an independent check of the car's condition so you know what you're buying. For the official inspection, check the current rules with Service New Brunswick or a licensed inspection station.
Will the seller let you look at it?
Most honest sellers will. If someone won't let an independent mechanic look at the car in their own driveway, that tells you something too.
Can you tell if the seller just cleared the codes?
Often, yes. Clearing codes resets the car's self-test monitors, and a scan shows them as not ready. A clean scan with a pile of incomplete monitors deserves a few questions.
Do you check for rust?
Yes, as far as we can see without a hoist. We look at the frame, rocker panels, subframe mounts and the brake and fuel lines, which is where salt does its damage around here. If something needs a hoist to judge properly, we'll tell you.
